If you're the experimental type, look no further than Victoria Beckham's sleek cut. Hershberger says it "can be worn sleek or tousled," so it's an easy look for women to play with. Tricomi says the chic, angled bob is a hugely requested style. And for those worried about getting a cut that doesn't live up to their posh standards -- this one totally does. Check out Victoria Beckham's hottest hairstyles over the years, and see how to knock 'em off.

Whether you call it "The Jen" or "The Rachel," there's no denying the fact that Jennifer Aniston's layered bob is "the most requested hairstyle of all time," Tricomi says. "Everyone wanted this style," Hershberger says, "it's a very pretty, 'girl next door' look." It perfectly frames your face and makes you totally approachable and "friend"-ly. Not all '90s hairstyles were that lucky.

THE 10 MOST POPULAR HAIRSTYLES
I've got two words for you: "The Rachel."

You know what I'm talking about. Practically every woman (and their mom, although she probably asked for "The Farrah" instead) has ripped out a picture of Jennifer Aniston and asked her hairstylist to recreate it. For a while there, you couldn't walk five feet without bumping into someone else with the same chic, straight layers.

"The Rachel" eventually joined the list of hugely-requested hairstyles that sparked a revolution since the first time they were seen in person, in pictures or on the big screen. Meg Ryan, Victoria Beckham and Blake Lively also made our top 10 list, for their totally iconic styles.

Click here to see the list of most popular hairstyles

So there's no question about what styles customers ask for. But why are these looks so popular even years after their first public appearance? We talked to Sally Hershberger, of the Sally Hershberger salons, and Edward Tricomi of the Warren-Tricomi salons to find out. Both are world-renowned stylists that have been asked time and time again to recreate celebrity hairstyles.

Turns out it's all about how women identify with the hairstyle, and what vibes they want to give off. A 2001 study done at Yale actually showed that women with short, tousled hair were seen as confident and outgoing, while long-haired women were perceived to be wealthy. (Agree? Disagree? You decide.)

So check out these top 10 most requested hairstyles, and maybe you'll find one that totally matches your aura. Then not only will you look fab, you'll feel comfortable in your new, perfect-for-you look. Isn't celebrity inspiration the best?

Synthetic Wigs vs. Real Hair Wigs

beautiful-girl-with-wigs
beautiful-girl-with-wigs

Washing, brushing, detangling, blow-drying, curling, cutting, straightening – we tend to spend a lot of time and energy on our hair. That doesn’t mean that we are all overly obsessed with our physical appearance. It is simply a reflection of the fact that beautiful, well-maintained hair makes us feel more self-confident, more able to deal with whatever the day chooses to throw at us. Perhaps a perfectly coiffed hairdo won’t make that meeting with your boss go away, but it will certainly help you hold your head up high no matter what happens. That’s why special care should be taken when selecting a wig.

People choose to wear wigs for a number of reasons including hair loss due to health conditions and simple aesthetics. There is quite an intimidating selection of wig types, styles, and colors available which can make choosing the perfect one a tad complicated. But the very first question you need to ask yourself when purchasing a wig is whether you prefer real hair or synthetic hair. Let’s consider the differences.

Synthetic Wigs

When people hear the term “synthetic” they often visualize a tacky hot pink wig similar to what you may have donned last Halloween. However, advancements in wig making have resulted in synthetic wigs that come in virtually every shade and style and look remarkably natural.

The primary benefits of choosing a synthetic wig are the price and relatively low maintenance involved. It is very possible to find a good quality synthetic wig for just a few hundred dollars. If you are wearing the wig on a daily basis, it will generally last between three to six months with proper care. Synthetic wigs come “pre-styled” which means that you should be absolutely certain that you are happy with the style of a particular wig before committing to a purchase. Synthetic wigs can be cut (using special shears) but you will be very limited in other styling options. Most synthetic wigs do not tolerate heat from styling tools well.

Real Hair Wigs

Wigs made from real human hair on the other hand are quite versatile. They can be colored and styled just like natural hair. Some people prefer them over synthetic wigs because they think others are less likely to notice they are wearing a wig. There is also value in being able to reach up and feel the smooth, lively texture of real hair.

However, real hair wigs require quite a bit of daily maintenance and even with meticulous care they may prove less durable than synthetic wigs. Another factor to consider is the price. Most real hair wigs will set you back a couple thousand dollars.

Some Questions to Ask Yourself

Based on the characteristics of synthetic and real hair wigs, you should ask yourself a few questions before committing to a type.

Would you enjoy spending time styling and maintaining your wig every day or do you want to just put it on and go?
Would you be content wearing a single style and color for several months or do you like to change your look often?
Is it very important to you that others not notice you are wearing a wig or do you not mind either way?
Do you have lots of money to spend on a wig or are you working with a small budget?
In the end, it often boils down to choosing a wig that suits your lifestyle. If you are on a budget and don’t have copious amounts of time to spend styling a wig every day, then synthetic would probably be a good choice. If money isn’t an option and natural look, texture, and versatility are important to you, then a real hair wig would be a better fit. There are no bad choices as long as you feel beautiful and confident in your wig.

Early Hair Loss: How to Deal with the Stigma and Your Emotions

Our twenties are a time to enjoy the fleeting pleasure of youth. You’re still young, but now old enough to appreciate it. But for those dealing with the social stigma of early hair loss, the ability to savor the joys of youth of may have diminished too soon.

For men, loss of hair can lead to feelings of reduced virility and stress. After all, it’s difficult to accept a radical – and sometimes inevitable – change in appearance. For women, the situation can be doubly difficult, as early hair loss is tied to notions of female beauty and femininity.

According to the U.K.’s National Health Service (NHS), women who lose their hair early can suffer “catastrophic” consequences. Society places expectations on women with regard to appearance, and losing one’s hair can lead to depression and negative body image. The NHS estimates about eight million women in the U.K. suffer from hair loss.

Causes

For men, the cause of early hair loss is typically easy to pinpoint — male pattern baldness. Four in seven men inherit the gene that causes baldness. While it’s often assumed that baldness is inherited from the maternal grandparent, it’s not a direct cause. While there is evidence linking the two, there are other factors that influence male baldness, including a history of baldness of the father’s side. The American Academy of Dermatology estimates fifty-percent of men will have some degree of male pattern baldness by the age of 50, as the odds of losing hair increase greatly as we age. Along with genetic predisposition, there are a number of environmental and nutritional factors that can affect hair growth in men, including things such as vitamin deficiency or changes in diet.

Women also suffer from genetic baldness, though the prevalence is significantly lower than in men. A number of other factors can lead to temporary or permanent loss of hair. These factors include: pregnancy, hormone changes, side effects from medication or certain hair care methods or hairstyles that place undue stress on the hair.

The Norwood Hair Loss Classification System
Treatments

While there is no cure for genetic baldness, there are a variety of treatments available. A dermatologist may perform a scalp biopsy to pinpoint the particular cause. Once you know how to proceed, there are multiple options to consider. Some women and men respond to minoxidil, which is the active ingredient in Rogaine. Men can also choose to use a prescription medicine called finasteride, which slows the production of DHT, the hormone that leads to baldness. Laser devices used to stimulate the scalp are also available. Because these treatments are not effective for everyone, hair transplants and modern, more realistic wigs are also popular options.

Dealing with the emotional cost

Whether or not you decide to pursue medical or cosmetic options for early hair loss, it’s equally important to address the underlying emotional issues that go hand-in-hand with such a potentially life-changing event. There are a number of support groups for men and women with hair loss, and a wide range of online resources. Here are some notable sites and communities:

The Women’s Hair Loss Project features stories and tips from women experiencing early hair loss – and the site is a light, positive place.
The National Alopecia Areata Foundation has support groups in every state.
Spencer Kobren’s The Bald Truth is a radio program that deals with the social stigma and emotional difficulties of dealing with hair loss – in both men and women.
Getting in touch with others who have gone through the process – whether through online forums or local support groups – can help you develop strategies to help cope.

Ultimately, it’s important that you make progress toward coming to terms with your appearance and situation. Your self-image and well-being may be improved by seeking professional hair loss treatments, but your self-worth will almost certainly be improved by accepting the fact that your identity is not tied to your hair.

Hair Transplant – a Modern Solution to Permanent Hair Loss

Hair Transplant
Hair Transplant

Many people will experience hair loss at some point in their lives and this loss not restricted just to the scalp. The most visible hair is that on the head and eyebrows and it is the loss of this hair that can be so distressing for sufferers and leads them to look for more permanent solutions.

What causes of hair loss?

Although it is estimated that there are five million hair follicles on the body it is the loss of the most obvious hair, on the head, eyebrows and eyelashes, that causes the most distress. There are several reasons why this might happen, some causes are treatable and hair will grow back, others result in more permanent hair loss. Some of the reasons for temporary hair loss include:-

Fungal infections of the scalp such as lichen planus.
Alopecia.
Chemotherapy or radiation treatment for cancer.
Some medical conditions can result in some hair loss.
The main cause of permanent hair loss, which can affect both sexes, is male or female pattern baldness which is inherited and can manifest at a very young age. And it is mainly this condition that leads most people to seek cosmetic treatment.

Hair loss treatments

As with all surgical procedures, hair transplant surgery carries risks such as infection and scarring, which need to be taken into consideration when making your decision and it is not suitable for everyone. It is wise to try some of the less invasive options first as it is carried out in private clinics and may be costly. Always consult your GP if you are considering hair transplant surgery.

Hair transplantation

This option requires a number of sessions, depending on the extent of the hair loss and requires a gap of up to one year between procedures. The procedure is carried out under local anaesthetic which means the area to be treated is ‘numbed’ to reduce the pain. A small section of scalp is taken from the area of the head with the most hair. The hair on the removed section is then teased apart so that single hairs or small clumps of hair can be transplanted into the area where the hair has been lost. The hairs are ‘planted’ so it looks as natural as possible. It is estimated that it takes about six months for the hair to become established and start to grow again. Hair transplant surgery is not a quick fix it can take some time to get the result you want.

Other options include:-

Scalp reduction which is used for primarily for cases alopecia which has caused scarring. This is where a section of the bald area on the top of the head is removed then the more hairy sections of the scalp are moved and sewn together.

As with all things research is increasing the number of options available for treating conditions such as these. Hopefully, in the not too distant future, clinicians specialising in hair transplant will be able to use cloned hair rather than just repositioning existing hair.

Types of Hair Extensions

Types of Hair Extensions
Types of Hair Extensions

Do you feel like your hair needs a little boost? From clip-in hair extensions to hair-by-hair extensions and weaves, there are a wide variety of hair extensions available to suit any colour, length, and style.

Choosing the right type of hair extension can be difficult, particularly if you’re new to the world of hair and make-up. Read on to learn from the experts at Hershesons and discover the best hair extensions for your hair type, colour, and length.

Clip-in hair extensions: Ideal for creating temporary length for events

If you’d like to give your hair a boost without spending hours with your stylist, clip-in hair extensions are a great choice. These hair extensions clip discreetly into your natural hair, giving you a nice length boost that’s easy to secure and remove.

While the clips used to secure clip-in extensions are far from bulky, they can show up in fine or very light hair, particularly in harsh lighting. Because of this, they’re a great choice for people with dark or thick hair that can easily obscure the clips.

Partial weaves: Excellent for adding volume to thick and curly hair

Unlike clip-in hair extensions, which are secured to your natural hair using a small clip, weaves are braided into your hair close to the scalp. This makes them a more permanent option for adding volume and length to your natural hair.

Since weaves are tightly braided into your natural hair, they can require a lot more care than clip-in extensions. Try to avoid washing your hair too frequently, as water will loosen the braids and cause the extensions to become more obvious.

Strand-by-strand hair extensions: The ideal choice for light or thin hair

Strand-by-strand hair extensions (also known as pre-bonded extensions) are glued into your natural hair using a protein known as Keratin. Because they use no clips or braids, strand-by-strand hair extensions tend to look remarkably natural.

Unlike clip-in hair extensions and full or partial weaves, pre-bonded hair extensions are an excellent choice for people with lightly coloured or thin hair. They’re also the most durable form of hair extensions, lasting for several months at a time.

Human or artificial hair: Which is the best choice?

Hair extensions of all types can be made from both natural and artificial hair. The two materials need to be cared for very differently, making it important that you pick hair extensions made from a material that suits your individual style needs.

Synthetic hair extensions, for the most part, can’t be exposed to heat in the same way that human hair extensions can. This means that you won’t be able to apply heat to your hair, particularly from a straightener or hair curler.

Human hair, on the other hand, can be treated like your own. As well as resisting heat far better than synthetic hair, human hair extensions generally look far more natural, especially when they accurately match your hair’s texture and colour. Visit humanhairextensionsonline.com.au for more hair colours.

The Last Word

The pace of modern life can be hectic, which means that it is not always easy to look your best. Hair extensions have therefore emerged as a key component of the average woman’s beauty regime, as they provide an affordable and versatile solution to any scheduling issues that you may have.

Not only can they add volume to your existing style, but they also help you to introduce new and vibrant colours. On a final note, hair extensions can also be used to create a brand new look for special occasions, which can also save significant amounts of time, money and effort as you look to make the most from your appearance.

Easy Tips for Soft, Manageable Hair within Weeks

Easy Tips for Soft
Easy Tips for Soft

Having beautiful hair is what most of us dream of. Not only does it make you look good, it also boosts self-esteem and improves your overall health. So if you want to say goodbye to hair dullness, here are easy-to-follow tips for getting strong, soft, shiny, and manageable locks.

Skip a day between shampoos
Rather than washing your hair daily, wash it every other day unless your hair is really oily. Skipping a day between shampoos preserves your scalp’s natural oil, making your hair healthier and shinier. If you have dry hair, use a conditioner every day in the shower.

Do not pull it tight
Some girls are used to pulling their hair into very taut buns, braids and ponytails. However, pulling your hair and constricting it with elastic bands can cause breakage. Use bobby pins or headbands instead. These accessories can sweep off the stands off your hair without causing split-ends. However, if wearing elastic bands cannot be prevented, don’t wrap it around the hair many times.

Turn down the heat
Heat can zap the luster out of your hair. Blow drying, ironing, perming, or using any heated hair-styling tools may be tempting, but you must consider the effects of overdoing it. A tip is scaling back on what you normally do.

On the same note, showering in hot water makes your hair dull and brittle too. Always shower with warm to cold water to hydrate hair strands. it’s also important to keep your hair and scalp protected from the sun’s rays. So always wear a hat or a scarf when going outdoors for a prolonged period.

Trim your hair
Getting a haircut once every six to eight weeks can do wonders to your hair. Trimming can prevent tearing up the shafts, which helps hair remain strong and healthy. You don’t need to be so drastic about it; a regular two-inch trim would be just fine. Consistency is key. So as not to forget, schedule an appointment at the end of your current appointment.

Brush your hair correctly
Proper hair brushing can boost blood flow and circulation to your scalp, helping hair grow longer and more lustrous. Brush your scalp vigorously at night, but don’t overdo it. Too much brushing can also cause breakage, especially to delicate hairs. Bend over and brush your hair from the back of your neck to the top of your bead with a boar-bristle brush. Before brushing, make sure to separate the strands and break the tangles with your fingers.

Shower with filtered water
The effects of hard water on your hair can be damaging. Chlorine, minerals, and other chemicals in hard water deposit into the surface of your hair and create a scaly buildup on the scalp, making hair strands appear lifeless. To prevent this, use water softener systems or whole house filters to leave your hair soft and shiny.

Avoid unnatural hair care products
Most hair dyes and hair treatments are chemical in nature. Applying it on your hair habitually will not only make your hair dry, it can also do harm to your scalp. However, if you must apply it, do it only after three months rather than every three weeks. You can also use natural methods. Some use hennas or brewed coffee to hide gray hair. Other natural hair treatments include mayonnaise, yogurt, eggs, aloe vera, and honey.

Eat right
Many of us might think that our food has nothing to do with our hair. On the contrary, food plays an important role on the condition of our hair. Food rich in omega-3 fatty acids such a sardines, salmon, and mackerel can help you maintain a healthy scalp. That, vitamins and protein keep your hair nourished.

Hair Care Tips For Women

For many women the way that their hair looks is very important to them. However, there is not one easy way to care for all hair as there are different types. Here we examine the different types of hair and recommend what to do for each.

Dry Hair

Dry hair tends to look very frizzy and can get split ends as well. This means that it needs to be trimmed regularly to keep it looking good at the ends. It can be a good idea to make regular appointments with a professional hairdresser to get it cut every six weeks. It may be possible that it stays in better condition if it is not too long.

Dry hair needs a lot of conditioner. It may be that a shampoo with conditioner and a separate conditioner needs to be used. It may also be necessary to add some leave-in conditioner, hair serum or hair oil to keep it looking good.

It is a good idea to experiment with different products to find out which work the best. There may be certain combinations of products that seem to suit your hair better. It may be that more expensive products seem to be better quality, but this may not always be the case.

Hair can dry out more if it is washed a lot. However, some people find that this only happens if they use too much shampoo. Most of the time it is best just to use a very small amount of shampoo as it washes away the natural oils from the hair and dries it out. Washing more regularly could help the hair to stay in better condition, especially if you make sure that you apply a good selection of conditioners to it every day.

Greasy Hair

Greasy hair can be difficult to manage as it can look good after being washed and then build up grease during the day. It is important to make sure that you do not use too many conditioners or touch it very much, so grease does not get added to the hair. The grease comes from the skin and so it can be a good idea to not brush the scalp so the grease is less likely to spread through the hair.

There are specific shampoos for great hair as well as conditioners. It can be difficult getting the balance between making it too dry or greasy. It is therefore worth experimenting with different shampoos and possibly with some light conditioners as well. It is good to be careful with styling products as well because they could make the hair appear more greasy.

Dandruff

Dandruff is a difficult condition to cope with. It is often treated with special shampoos. However, it can be worth looking at using conditioning shampoo or extra conditioner instead. This is because dandruff is caused by a dry scalp and a shampoo that is hydrating could really help the condition. Like with all hair types, it is a good idea to try out different products to see what works best.

If nothing eliminates the problem completely then it could be worth seeing a GP. They will be able to prescribe some stronger shampoo if that is what is required or may suggest you to also use  hair care products like Mira Hair Oil for hair care.
